Your Friends & Neighbors
Writer/director Neil LaBute's follow-up to his stirring, nasty debut, In the Company of Men, is a slightly tamer affair which suffers somewhat from an imbalance of unlikeable characters. Jason Patric has finally found his niche in the role of an insensitive macho who has no problem bedding the wives and girlfriends of the men he hangs out with. Ben Stiller — unhappy in his domesticated relationship with Catherine Keener — lusts after pal Aaron Eckhart's missus, while she (NYPD Blue's Amy Brenneman) has given up on having a fulfilling sex life with anyone. Sometimes depressing and always bitter, this is definitely not a date movie as it will put all viewers off entering any type of relationship ever again. Troubling, twisted stuff.
