You Were Never Lovelier
The second wartime pairing (after You'll Never Get Rich) of the marvellous Rita Hayworth and the ineffable Fred Astaire is a delight, as they dance to a superb Jerome Kern score with Johnny Mercer lyrics, including I'm Old Fashioned and Dearly Beloved. The plot is silly and the budget skimpy, but the two stars are radiant, possibly owing to the fact that they were "an item" on this movie. They also happened to have known each other all their dancing lives, since Fred was half of Fred and Adele Astaire and the young Hayworth, as Margarita Carmen Cansino, was part of the Dancing Cansinos. Watch for a pre-Jolson Story Larry Parks.
