Who'll Stop the RainA Vietnam vet (Nolte) is tricked into playing a part in a heroin-smuggling scam by an old comrade (Moriarty) and, when it all goes horribly wrong, is forced to go on the run with the con-artist's wife (Weld). A drug-fuddled character drama which forms a sardonic commentary on America's state of trauma and confusion after the Vietnam conflict. But there's no heavy-handed homily here - in fact, Reisz's disinclination to moralize upon the actions of his characters is one of the film's chief virtues. 'You see,' explains Moriarty, 'in a world where elephants are pursued by flying men, people are just naturally going to want to get high...' |
