Welcome Home, Roxy CarmichaelThere's a bit of the Alled Jones in Ryder. If you saw her in such recent debacles as The Crucible or Alien: Resurrection, you might wonder if she was ever any good or merely a shorter Anna Friel from Hollywood's brat-pack past. This angsty coming of age comedy-drama is her defence. She hijacks an otherwise muddled and dispirited production as an orphaned teenager, a gawky, disgruntled, black-clad outsider anticipating the return of the town's most famous daughter, Hollywood celebrity Roxy Carmichael (Fabian). Daniels, who had a child with Roxy before she left, is waiting too. Go figure.
