Two for the Money

Two for the Money is a poor man's Wall Street, seemingly shot through a sock and set to a soundtrack that alternates between Rocky-style champ rock, waka-waka porn music and the theme to Monday Night Football. Not that any of this should stop you from seeing it, if you're into that sort of thing. Even if you're not, you have to admire a movie as enthusiastically and unrepentantly cheesy as this ??? especially when it stars Matthew McConaughey as a former college football player so clean-living he can't say the "F" word, and screamin' Al Pacino as the gambling-addicted football oddsmaker and cable sage who lures him into a life of snake-oil sales pitches, $1,000 suit...

Not bad ... but not great
Saw this on a flight to Malaysia. This average drama has a good performance from Pacino but it is his usual bulstering larger than life characterisation we have seen in many of his films. He won't be winning any wards for this movie. I usually like Matthew Mc but in this film he seems to be going through the motions. Plot was average, not much excitement. The script and exchanges between characters were ok. Not really much else to say about this average film.

The title Two for the Money sounds as if it belongs on a '40s comedy - and not on a movie starring Al Pacino when he's approaching emeritus status.

So it's only a mild surprise that what we get on screen is, if not high drama, at least non-comedic - a movie for those who haven't seen Oliver Stone's 1987 Wall Street. This shakier variation follows the same parabolic fortunes of a hot young hopeful in a turbulent cash-cow profession, corrupted and mentored at work by a suspect role model. Part of the movie's problem is that the youngster (Matthew McConaughey) takes a lot longer than we do to spot cavernous chinks in Al's armor.

Damn, the first one to leave a comment for this movie, an al pacino movie, i should be honored..The movie was awsome. talks about sports and what the gambaling system can do to you. Don't get addicted to it. lol. 5/5
