The film was shot primarily in Philadelphia; Gilliam uses the more dilapidated area of the city to the film's apocalyptic advantage. The film is based on the 1962 French short film LA JETEE. The Signature Laserdisc includes a feature on the film's making.

this movie is really good. one of bruce willis and brad pitt's best ever. you cannot miss this weird film. theres just something too it that you'll like. brad pitt should have one the oscar for he's role here. 3 of 4 stars very good.
