More 'style' than 'script'
Tigerland attempts a different spin on the tour-of-duty genre by not going to Vietnam at all. Unfortunately this means theres no real sense of danger. Sorry, there is no comparison to Full Metal Jacket. OK, the recruits do get shouted at a bit and the drill sergeant made them peel some potatoes. Fear of imminent death is eventually cut-and-pasted into the final 20 minutes. And theres the usual I gotta a gal back home stuff. The tough recruits strut coolly out at the end of the movie, presumably to land in Vietnam where they proceed to shoot each other and wet themselves. Now that would be worth watching.
