A minor role for Bogart, but a great film
Humphrey Bogart supports George Raft in this story of two brothers who share truck-driving duties to get their loads delivered on time. This is probably better known as the film that shone a spotlight on Ida Lupino for her dramatic performance in the courtroom scene, not to mention Ann Sheridan as a feisty truckstop waitress.
Bogart plays only a small role, while George Raft makes the adaptation from gangster to good guy quite well, and delivers a sympathetic performance. The plot gathers momentum as the film develops, and delivers its share of drama, tempered by the wisecracking brothers as they try to make a go of their haulage business. Not the best film for Bogart fans, given his small role, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless. Worth watching! |
