The Serpent and the RainbowArmed with the right script, Wes (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream) Craven is more than capable of turning out innovative horror films, but this certainly isn't one of them. Investigating rumours about a drug which renders people completely paralysed yet conscious, Pullman is drawn into the superstitious underworld of Haiti where the line between science and fiction becomes increasingly blurred. Stories of voodoo rituals and people being buried alive soon begin to permeate his fantasies. Humdrum story mixed with some convincing and noisy special effects passes the time, but this is Craven on autopilot.
