The Man Who Never WasThe wonderfully camp and waspish Webb was often wasted in 'straight' roles like this one of a top-brass Army officer, better suited to the likes of Hawkins. Nevertheless, he is authoritative enough in this absorbing but leisurely Second World War spy yarn in CinemaScope. It is based on a true story of the Allies planting an elaborate red herring - a washed-up body bearing secret papers - to divert attention away from the invasion of Sicily.
