Strong Story, Weak Movie
Bizarrely cast and ineptly directed by Chris Sivertson, this film is engaging nevertheless for its strong story. Based on a novel by Jack Ketchum (whose work also inspired superior films RED and THE GIRL NEXT DOOR), THE LOST's portrait of stagnant small-town life has to be read between-the-lines in the movie, but is still quite resonant. Some strong performances (Michael Bowen as the cop on the psycho's trail, Dee Wallace as mother of one the victims) among the weak and mannered acting makes for a bumpy ride.
