The Light at the Edge of the World
Some movies are just so awful you wonder how they could have been conceived in the first place. This overlong Panavisioned adaptation of a Jules Verne novel about a lighthouse that is beset by pirates is pathetic, geared for neither adults nor children, and has grievous trouble finding both style and tone. Producer/star Kirk Douglas, villain Yul Brynner and female lead Samantha Eggar look uncomfortable, director Kevin Billington seems out of his depth, and the dubbing of the foreign supporting players rings awkwardly in the ears.
