I watched my young son marvel at the cartoon series

This is as close to the cartoon as I can imagine, so I do reckon there will be a series of films to cover the WHOLE series of books .

A VERY good effort and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

(after all it worked for Harry Potter)

10/10 for effort and presentation!!

I expected another terrible transition like Dragonball but was pleasantly surprised. Since many have given lots of reasons why they didnt like the film I will list the positives. First, it moves along nicely explaining the story and backstories as you go along. Second, it didnt get overly cheesy with lame references to silly things or cheesy one liners.

the biggest thing is I was worrying that they were going to cram what is a heck of a lot of story to be told into the ever degrading minutes of film but thankfully it definitely has at least 2 more films or a decent 2.5 hour film left to go.

Avatar is a wonderful little story for kids and this movie has so far done it justice, so if some of you adults just didnt get it then try realising the audience its made for like the cartoons.

My kids loved it ages 8-16

Never watched the original anime`s so i cant be biased or compare.to me this is a childrens movie and i only got half way through because the lead role was annoying.dont know what it was..i think his voice was just melting my brain.mind you i have a slight hangover but still this movie didnt do it for me.i thought the charachters should have been chinese especially if they are practicing martial arts.well even the main role should have been chinese but instead has this thick american accent and a voice that would get on the nerves of a deaf person.cgi and effects were great but thats about it.not for me.

If you watched and were a fan of the show then you sud not watch this!

It it suffers greatly by comparison to the show as was expected bt not to such an extent.

The uncle was my fav character in the show and they really did a bad job of him! to some extent they changed all the characters and in doing so they have lost the spirit of hope and fun that made the show such a good watch even for a 19 year old.

I cant speak for people that haven't seen the show bt as someone who has this gets a 3/10

I Saw this movie July 5th 2010:

Well I dont know I didnt expect to much and yet I knew when I was sitting in this will be better than Dragonball Evbolution (Cause that was ok but really far off from the show) this was quite good I enjoyed it and cant wait for Books 2 and 3 to come onto the big screen. (I never watched the animes but I know the style and I probably will watch them now definetly) I watched it in 3D Im not saying it was bad Im just saying it didnt make a diffrence cause like if a movie is made normally then transfered into 3D in last minute thats not good for 3D there wasnt any in your face 3D effects I dont feel there wouldvbe been any diffrence besides the fact of getting more money out of your pocket But yeah the movie was great I really enjoyed it probably will see it again before its DVD/Blu Ray Release (Which i will definetly buy :D)

10/10 actually for me it really came through (Oh yeah almost forgot to mention BRILLIANT BEAUTIFUL Musical Scores loved it will get the soundtrack soon movies like Harry Potter, Narnia, Lord of the Rings, and like here Last Airbender it counts so much what really gripped me was the music thats usually what I really look for in these epics)

The kid wanted to watch this one so bad, so I put it on for him. I half payed attention to the beginning, but found myself enjoying it by the end. I'm not familiar with the books or cartoon at all, so I have nothing to relate it to. Overall, not a bad movie, the kid really liked it. Every time he seen a character from the cartoon he would tell me who they were. He got really exited with each one, it was funny.

This movie was lame. And i'm not saying this as a big fan of the show dissapointed at watching it get butchered. I'm saying this because it was a genuinely lame movie. Acting was sub-par the characters were one dimensional and uninteresting, the fight scenes were cheesey. Toss 'The Last Airbender' in the never watch again pile, pray they don't make a sequel, watch the animated series and pretend the movie never happened.

Those who hate this movie, keep in mind he's making 3 movies. The anime series is split into 3 chapters. This movie covers chapter 1 all the way. There may have been some parts left out, but its an adaption. Stuff is always cut out when it comes to movies like this. Look at LoTR. They cut a lot out of those movies. No surprise here. M. Night did an exelent job at making an adaption. 10/10
