I saw this film in 1972 when it opened at the Carib Cinema in Kingston, Jamaica. I was 15 years old at the time. The film ran at this cinema for 6 weeks non stop, playing to a full house each time. It was a sensational hit then and is every second a "Classic" now. It spoke to the creeping but biting social issues of the day that have mushroomed into an unstoppable cancer in Jamaica today and showed the perceptiveness of visionary writer/director, the late Perry Henzell.

The film scored a breakthrough for Jamaican music with one of the best all time soundtracks for a film and is rated #20 all time. It also broke new ground for Jamaica as among the elite cultural locations in the world.

Even today 37 years after the film is still evergreen.
