Caught this on cable last night and overall it was fairly well done. Have family who live in New Orleans so anything Katrina-related is of interest. Val Kilmer gives a solid performance and "fitty cent" was much better than expected. However the BIG disappointment was Sharon Stone and her laughably embarrassing attempt at a Louisiana accent. Sheesh lady, next time hire a dialect coach.
I'm glad the film industry is working there, and as for plot, it's nothing new corruption on large scale in New Orleans (pronounced "Nawlins") before and AFTER Katrina, alot of this film in METBHO is to show the "tourist places" are still there and untouched by the city's crime as per the norm, like the little luncheon with Sharon Stone in the Court of Three Sisters, the jazz band in the Quarter, the street car named Desire, taking it's commuters to work, and home, etc. Hence the low budget, they're doing what they can to help out the city. Lots of "stars" have places down there, Cage, and others, and want to do what they can for the city we all love((d). And the HEART of Nawlins is still there, which I'm glad to see in films. shot there recently.
It reminded me of the TV show that did not make it, but with better actors.
As for 50 cent, that man does not act but is just "himself" on the silver screen, he came from that he knows it, BOTH sides. But he has exceeded expectations.
Kilmer, he's bloated and I just dont know what to think anymore with him. He did pull off the role, but without his "zest". I hope he finds himself and soon, or just slip into obscurity quietly.
Stone mastered a Jersey mixed with what she thiought was "Creole" flavor, and tried to pass it off as a Nawlin's accent poorly. Maybe she should watch "TRUE BLOOD" for some pointers. I'm still dazed and confused as to her role and why she's in this fillm
5/5 for filming in Nawlins, movie quality watchable but a 2.5/5.
