Someone to Watch Over MeStylish thriller from Gladiator director Ridley Scott. Berenger plays a no-nonsense, blue collar cop who leaves his long-suffering wife (Bracco) when he falls for a glamorous socialite (Rogers) for whom he is acting as live in bodyguard after she witnesses a Mob killing. Beneath the slick performances and sumptuous production values lies a smart critique of late-1980s consumerism and, suprisingly, a genuinely engaging take on relationships. Scott displays his inimitable visual artistry – established in Blade Runner, exultant in Gladiator – with brooding smogfilled cityscapes and lavish set designs. The three leads convey the pain of the love triangle with consummate skill. As chic as an 80's Armani commercial, but with a warm heart.
