SliverCarly Norris (Stone) is the publishing executive moving into a new high-tech building, sporting the latest in surveillance equipment. Her first mistake is to rent an apartment which became vacant when its previous tenant committed suicide. Soon Norris begins to suspect something may be wrong. Could her new voyeuristic boyfriend be the murderer, or is the answer altogether more sinister and complex?
Sliver, adapted by Joe Eszterhas from the novel by The Stepford Wives creator Ira Levin, and starring Stone right after Basic Instinct catapulted her to fame, was cleverly marketed and looks slicker than a soapy thigh. For all its purportedly racy treatment of voyeurism however, the end product is a lame, conventional thriller with nothing new to say about anything at all.
