Sleepless in SeattleRyan, unhappily engaged, hears a phone-in on the radio in which a widowed man (Hanks) is coerced by his son to confess his loneliness since the death of his wife. Drawn to the nocturnal caller, Ryan knows that she may only be following a pipe dream when she thinks that he might just be her one true love, but she wouldn't be Meg Ryan if she didn't at least give tracking him down a shot. A modern minor classic inspired by An Affair to Remember, Sleepless in Seattle is a simply wonderful romantic comedy with a flawless script by Ephron. Ryan rehashes the role she has played so perfectly umpteen times, but when it works as beautifully as it does here, who is complaining? |
