Entertaining But Not Original
Mark Wahlberg plays an ex-army sniper who has been brought out of a self-imposed exile to help stop a plot to kill the American President. Things aren't what they seem and Wahlberg finds himself as the fall guy for a shady conglomerate working within the government. He is forced to go on the run and attempt to clear his name.
There isn't much originality about Shooter, however there is definitely enough action to keep fans of the genre occupied. There are plot holes, and the reason for the assassination attempt will seem pretty lame but if you can ignore these blips then your enjoyment won't be affected. Wahlberg plays his part of the revenge seeking Bobby Lee Swagger well, and Danny Glover's Colonel Johnson is a 'standard issue' villain who is more smarmy than scary. All in all Shooter is a decent, entertaining action movie that is worth a look if you like the genre. It's not a masterpiece so dont' go in expecting one and you will be happy. |
