Shoes of the Fisherman, TheLabelled 'Zorba the Pope', this plodding, overlong sentimental, religious drama has Quinn, who has spent 20 years in a Siberian labour camp, elected Pope. He then decides to sell the Vatican treasures to raise funds in order to feed the hungry, even if it means bankrupting the Church. West, who co-wrote the adaptation from his own best-seller, was so disappointed with the result that he made sure his screenwriting credit was removed. The film, which tries to be all things to all people, cost over nine million dollars and yet failed at the box office despite the expense and a prestigious cast. |
