Shadow of a DoubtThings start to get exciting in a small dull town when Charlie (Cotten) comes to visit his sister and niece to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. When it dawns on his niece (Wright) that her favourite uncle may in fact be the 'Merry Widow' murderer, the scene is set for a classic Hitchcock suspense thriller. Though curiously subdued, Hitchcock's direction still draws a wonderfully perceptive picture of small town life, where the news of the murderer seems to elicit more excitement than horror. And the murderous uncle's niece, christened Charlie after him, may have more in common with him than her name.
