SayonaraA plodding and somewhat unconvincing exploration of Japanese-American mixed marriages that won a raft of Oscars, one suspects more for its determinedly liberal stance than any inherent dramatic quality. Brando method acts himself into a corner as a US serviceman stationed in Japan during the Korean War, who finds himself up against the authorities when he rejects his true blue fiancée in favour of a Japanese dancer (Miyoshi Umeki). Well-intentioned but unforgiveably trite.
