A police sergeant goes up against an evil electronics whiz in this fast-paced, futuristic thriller. Ramsey is a widowed cop trying to raise his young son, Bobby. Although he suffers from a fear of heights, this condition hasn't stopped him from becoming one of the best officers on the force. His specialty is tracking down robots that have gone bad, rebelling against their owners. And because machines have taken over many regular tasks -- even cooking -- in this futuristic society, there's always a need for Ramsey's services. Now, however, he has his toughest assignment yet. Luther, a master cr... iminal, is terrorizing the city by controlling robots everywhere to do his bidding. And, with the help of new, diabolical creations that include electronic spiders and heat-seeking, programmable bullets, Luther seems unstoppable. Will Ramsey and Thompson, his new, female partner, be able to stop the villain?

Worth a go
I saw this film when it first came out and then got it on VHS. Set in the future, Tom Selleck plays a cop who specialises in going after runaway robots. I do not think this film has aged too much, some of the robots look a bit old school, however, some of the concepts are still quite new even today. Infected microchips, killer spider robots, hover cameras, robots that do housework, bullets that can go round corners. I think this is an ok all-rounder action film, which if you have not seen, is worth a watch.
Crichton takes the helm of one of his own compositions once more, this time a futuristic thriller in which Selleck, as a cop, has to find out just who is responsible for a string of killings perpetrated by out-of-control robots. It's rubbish, frankly, but rubbish in the nicest, most entertaining way possible, with a straight-laced approach that gives it an unintentionally amusing feel, some halfway decent action sequences and an outrageous turn from Kiss star Simmons, who ditches his trademark make-up to play an unspeakably over-the-top bad guy. Fine if your expectations aren't too high.
