Sarah Huttington, recently engaged, goes home to Pasadena with fianc? Jeff for a family wedding. She hears a rumor that "The Graduate" (book and movie) are based on her family. Did her grandmother and her mom have flings with the same man just before her parents married? Is she a strange man's child; does this explain why she doesn't fit in? Was her mother happy? Wrong-footed from the get-go, Rumor Has It ??? stars Jennifer Aniston as a 33-year-old New York Times obit writer who returns home to her tennis-playing Pasadena family for the wedding of her younger sister. It's a high-concept movie that never transcends the pitch stage: Young woman thinks her family is the inspiration for The Graduate. Comedy ensues.

For the concept to work, the filmmakers needed to do two things: one, have faith that the majority of their audience has at least a cursory knowledge of the plot of The Graduate, and two, ensure that their movie would work on its own merits.

At times you do worry where this film is going! But it all comes together in the end,so you need not worry! Jenifer Anniston plays Sarah a woman who lives in new york with her fiance(mark ruffalo),and she has to go back to her home town for her sister(Mena suvari) wedding,which she is anxious about as she feels that she doesn't fit in! She is feeling really lost and she doesn't know what to do! She loves her fiance but cant bring herself to marry him and her mother died when she was 9 and she cant seem to shake the feeling that theres a big family secret that affects her! So at her sisters wedding she has a heart to heart with granma(Shirley Maclaine) and its not long before the rumo...
Amusing
This is an ok rom-comish girly film. I saw this and 'The Family Stone' at around the same time and I thought the later much better. But Kevin and Jennifer are good and it wasnt boring.. so a solid 3 stars
Originally to be the directorial debut of screenwriter Ted Griffin, who penned the screenplay, Rumor Has It... is a remarkably apt title, given that Griffin was replaced just several days into the shoot by Rob Reiner with no explanation. Whatever the disagreements, Reiner - a master of the romantic comedy if When Harry Met Sally is anything to go by - found himself dealing with a story that is more a premise than a fully fleshed-out script.
