Romancing the Stone
Tongue in cheek Indiana Jones-style ripping yarn starring Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas
The electric screen pairing of Douglas and Turner was one of the great partnerships of the 80s, and nowhere better realized than in their first film together. This is a refreshing antidote to the heroics of the Indiana Jones movies. Turner is meek romantic novelist Joan Wilder who, having headed to the Columbian jungle to rescue her kidnapped sister, lands in an adventure involving snivelling bad guys, big green jewels, DeVito's con artist and of course Douglas as the loner with a penchant for crocodile-wrestling. All very tongue-in-cheek (typified by the opening sequence, lifted straight from one of Joan's pulp novels) and great fun. |
