RoboCop 2A rather repellent sequel to Paul Verhoeven's semi-classic sci-fi satire that ODs on the violence - eyes punctured by stiletto heels and an interminable medical torture sequence (much of which was chopped out by British censors) - with none of the subversive humour that made the original so memorable.
It's hard to believe that this was the work of the veteran filmmaker Irvin Kershner, director of The Flim Flam Man and The Empire Strikes Back , and not some idiot film school graduate. It's also hard to believe that the script is credited to the much-admired comic book author (and Sin City creator) Frank Miller and not some idiot... well, you get the picture.
Check out the climactic fight between RoboCop and the drug-addled RoboCop 2 for a surreal glimpse of actor Chris Quentin, better known as 'Coronation Street's' Brian Tilsley, as a news reporter.
