River's Edge
A chilling chronicle of the differing reactions given by a group of disaffected high school teenagers over the course of a few days when a friend shows them the body of the girl he murdered. Tim Hunter's confident direction underlines the bleakness of this vivid study of alienation and moral vacuity, which is based on a real-life incident. Keanu Reeves scores as the decent guy who doesn't think the killing should go unpunished, but the standout performance comes from Crispin Glover as the speed-freak friend of the killer whose own sorry life is given pathetic meaning by the slaying.
