Don't be put off (or encouraged) by the original
This film is nothing like it. A dark, dark film that, in true fairy tale fashion, loosely dresses its grim nature in glorious ornament.
I last saw this film when I was a child, and yet some scenes have totally preserved their blood curdling capacity. It is more imaginative than the first film, more unexpected, funnier and more effective. Well worth a watch even if it is just for that 'I know a film reference that only one other person in the room knows, but we both know it intimately and now are having an animated discussion' factor! |
