A socially awkward but very bright 15-year-old girl being raised by a single mom discovers that she is the princess of a small European country because of the recent death of her long-absent father, who, unknown to her, was the crown prince of Genovia. superb family film
this film is superb. the princess diaries is a charming, modern day fairy tale with a positive message under the lighthearted surface.
Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Mia is excellent, with terrific timing and delivery, in her comic scenes, and with a touching subtlety in her dramatic moments.
Julie Andrews is wonderful, perfectly cast as the majestic queen, with an undercurrent of affection and vulnerability, beneath her regal exterior.

not ashamed to say that i enjoyed this film. and just because i'm a dude, it does not mean that i'm closed minded about romantic films. worth at least a watch if you enjoy romantic films. 2 1/2 of 4 stars good.
