First,

I want to say that this movie was phenomenal! The cast was fantastic (Lenny Kravitz especially for his debut). I know this is going to be a diservice to the Academy-Awards if this movie doesn't get any awards.

Second,

What's wrong with you people comparing Avatar to this masterpiece? This film lived up to its hype most definitely. James Cameron is not this "High and Mighty" director everyone's painting him out to be. (Titanic is one of the most OVERRATED and ANNOYING movies ever to have come about the screen). He relies solely on special effects and depressing music.

Congrats to Ms. Sidibe and Mo'Nique for their Oscar nominations!!

A heart-rending, slightly disturbing story.. Got the shivers when [SPOILER] .. The actors were brilliant and fit their parts perfectly, especially Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique.. Though the film talks about the triumph of human willpower, the narrative and the setting is dark and ominous.. [SPOILER] Deserves a 100 oscars and much more for the sheer beauty of the girl and her determination

This deserve 5 stars. All the actors (tresses) did a very good job. It was a wonderful movie. It made me cry real bad. This is what u called a reality movie. Because this kind of things that happened in movie, is happening right now. Some may have it worst than Precious. But that doesn't mean we have to betray them. We have to help them to fulfill their dreams.

It was alright. I think everyone hyped it up too much because it was just average. A little boring for me, "Precious" was hard to understand at times and her mom was so annoying that I zoned out whenever she talked. Worth a one time watch, 3/5.

I loved this film. I've seen it a few times and each time it is harder and harder to watch. It's very emotional and you feel every bit of it. You will leave hating Mo'nique for her role but it's one that was well deserving of the award. Great movie 5/5

It was sad, depressing, and inspirational at the same time. While I am conflicted in the way black people are portrayed, I think it is a story that needed to be told. (true or not) Unfortunately, some will view this as ALL black people and not just some, or a few. lostboysfan is right about Gabourey Sidibe mumbling a good portion of her lines. However I think that was by design in this case as it punctuated her shyness and the level to which she was withdrawn. (Even some narration) As far as Mo'Nique is concerned, I really didn't like her before this. I didn't like her stand-up or the roles she played. This film made me change my mind a little, particularly her last scene. [SPOILER] That, imo, is what secured the Oscar for her. I died laughing when [SPOILER] This film was well done. 5/5

I thought this movie was great. I have wanted to see it since it came out, and I wasn't dissapointed. The acting done was brilliant, to even conjure up the characters for those roles must have been difficult. It was touching and sad..the teachers persistence is amazing. Loved it. 9/10
