Isn't it strange.. Of the negative reviews of this movie, 100% didn't really say *what* was bad, and the most detailed wasn't sureif it was Wild West or Science Fiction. A suggestion to such reviewers of this, or any other movie. PAY ATTENTION!
It's based on a sci-fi novella written in the '60's as I recall, though I've forgotten the author. The postman starts as a conman, trying to survive in the traditional post-apocalyptic world of isolated, wary communities. Of course, he ends up as a hero and a unifying cause: there are no great plot suprises once the movie gas got into it's groove.

You've got to wonder why, after 1995's Waterworld, Hollywood's least likeable leading man was given another $100 million to pursue his dreary love-affair with himself.
You know whom to blame for The Postman's grandiose awfulness: Costner stars, directs, co-produces, sings ('You Didn't Have to be So Nice') and gives supporting roles to three members of his own family (son Joe and daughters Lily and Anne).
