Hey, "Peyton Place" used to be on the TV as a series in the '60s a bit like Dynasty was a decade or so later, basically it was a soap. A few years ago I saw the book of the same name on a friend's bookshelf, which I assumed would be as tacky as the TV series that was based on it, but my friend raved about it and made me borrow the book to read, reluctantly I might add. Well it was a marvelous read, I couldn't put it down till the story was finished, very gripping. The movie here presented is pretty faithful to the book and does it justice as far as a film can. It's slightly old-fashioned in it's look perhaps to the modern viewer but it's a fine drama, well-acted and directed, a good solid story and a movie well worth watching that has the power to touch you on a number of levels. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who likes old films and a gripping yarn. If you can, read the book.. it's good too!
