No amount of period detail and production values can mask the fact that this is a story about a perfume made from dead women, which smells so beautiful that it makes people mistake the murderer for an angel. Creepy, deeply distasteful, and utterly misogynistic.

A German director, adapting a German novel set in France, with actors speaking English, plus extensive voice-over and a near-mute protagonist who spends a lot of his time sniffing. It doesn't exactly sound like a recipe for cinematic success. Remarkably, Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, Heaven) has pulled it off, creating a film that overcomes its more awkward elements to be a visually impressive, highly unusual period thriller.

I am finally glad people are giving this movie the respect it desrves..I saw this when it first came out in theaters and was blown away with how well it was done..the acting..the music and the story were all top notch..I even have it as part of my collection..4/5..live it..love it..own it..
wow. a truly excellent movie! its such a bizarre idea but so interesting and it drew me in right away. a really unique plot. this is also one of those movies with both a good storyline AND ending, which was really nice!
Not as good as the book, and if you've read the book ,you know what's coming, but still it's really a great film. It's an amazing story very original a must see 5/5..
