So, when she was not nominated, the resulting furore got her added to the list at the last moment. Davis's awful cockney accent is offset by her vibrant presence, and she is better than both Parker and Novak in the 1946 and 1964 remakes of this film. However, all three films are shallower than the Somerset Maugham novel on which the screenplays are based. |
