No Way OutIn this thriller from Australian director Roger Donaldson (The Bounty, Thirteen Days) Costner plays Tom Farrell, a naval lieutenant and CIA agent brought into the Pentagon to discreetly investigate the murder of Secretary of Defence's mistress, Susan Atwell (Young). However, as David Brice (Hackman), the Secretary of Defense, is himself the culprit (it was an accident) and Farrell was is Atwell's man on the side, who aroused Brice's jealousy in the first place, he has to think quickly to stop being framed himself.
A remake of the 1947 film noir The Big Clock, No Way Out is a cleverly plotted thriller with impeccable performances. Costner is spot on as the man who finds it hard to play by others' rules, even if it may cost him his head.
