Oh dear.
Despite a charming performance from Johnny Depp and some low-key hamming from Frank Langhella, this is a stinker.
It takes a very long time to unravel a fairly uninteresting mystery, with some devil/angel stuff thrown in for good measure. Even the engaging Depp seems to be floundering at times - he's peculiarly unconvincing in the (admittedly unnecessary) sex scenes. Mildly amusing in places, never scary. I can only imagine everyone concerned thought Roman Polanski had something better up his sleeve than the final product. |
