My Blue HeavenA misfiring comedy that has Martin as a New York gangster who is dispatched to suburban California as part of a witness-protection programme, and Moranis as the G-man assigned to make sure he keeps a low profile. Both are miscast; Martin's overdone 'wild and crazy guy' routine with an Eastside accent is predictable and irritating, and whatever Moranis's talents are, they ain't as a straight man. Ross's direction is workmanlike and Ephron's script uninspired, so it's left to Cusack, as Moranis's love interest, to effortlessly and thanklessly steal the show, as she tends to do. |
