How To Be Predictable And Mawkish
The lovely Julia Roberts plays once again a fairytale character along the lines of the prostitute she played in 'Pretty Woman'. And about as convincing.

If you liked 'Pretty Woman' and didn't find it offensively simple-minded, then you will probably enjoy this highly unlikely story of a committed art-history teacher in stuffy 50s Massachusetts (portrayed by Roberts extremely unconvincingly). Otherwise, avoid.

50's America, a country in dire need of a missile crisis to shake thing up a bit. Into an cloyingly twee and pompous Wellesley College steps progressive Arts teacher Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) who immediately sets about trying to liberate her female students with notions of independence and various other well-meaning slogans with little regard as to whether her choir wants to be preached to or not. This social commentary quickly fades away from the canvas leaving a rather lacklustre relationship drama that's spread over too many characters none of which are painted in more than the shallowest of brushstrokes. I LOVE watching this movie, it makes you think about society, how far women have come and not have come. It is not a surprise to believe that there are still people (men and woman) who think this way. My thing is what is the difference between stay-at-home-mom and a house wife? Is it just the wording, being political correct? One has education and the other one don't? Someone please enlighten me?

While I don't say who is the exact idiot here for calling someone else an idiot because she is stating her opinion and feels inspired, I think it is perfectly normal to question yourself or other matters after watching a somewhat revealing movie, because that is also ultimately the aim of most films. Saying someone is an idiot for expressing herself over a movie is the same thing as telling someone he is retarded for crying; it's only a movie after all.

Personally, I think you shouldn't judge people on what they are, but what they accomplish.

This is a real good film, i did thoroughly enjoy this film as i'm sure many people would, it raises questions that have been up for debate for decades now, and even though times have changed some people still find it hard to think out of the box and except this. We will still be faced with diversity, whether it be prejudiced or racist, people still act in this manner even if we have come along way. Society is not the same whereever you go, you will find that culture, faith, desires, and ones own belief can account for many things, some have been raised to belief in such values even in todays world. It is a matter of opinion if one wants to stay at home and be a 'house wife', why should that person be looked down on for having different values to the working mum, not all these house wifes or mums live off the goverment, not to mention the 'stay at home husbands'. There will always be some form of critique regarding such matters..Film is rated at 3.5/5
