On August 7, 1974, Philippe Petit, a French wire walker, juggler, and street performer days shy of his 25th birthday, spent 45 minutes walking, dancing, kneeling, and lying on a wire he and friends strung between the rooftops of the Twin Towers. Uses contemporary interviews, archival footage, and recreations to tell the story of his previous walks between towers of Notre Dame and of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, his passions and friendships, and the details of the night before the walk: getting cable into the towers, hiding from guards, and mounting the wire. I just listened to an interview with Petit on NPR, and he is such an original! He considers himself a poet, and writes in the sky with his wire walking. This is a great look at one of the greatest artists of out time!! Also, he signed a steel beam at the top of tower 2, and it was preserved until that fateful day in September, 2001. I imagine the beam with his signature is still around, in a heap of metal. Just one more tragedy out of that day. Watch this, and hopefully you will learn something, I know that I certainly did!! 4.5/5
great documentary. times have changed now its harder for people to pursue their dreams. musicians artists poets seem to all need capital to live their artistic passion in life. let me stop here before i start to babble and stray from this inspiring documentary. im sure that this and most of every other doc was embellished. more specifically the ending. [SPOILER]
he was a great man for accomplishing this feat but did not give any or not enough credit to his crew who believed in him and sacrificed criminal charges just so that he could accomplish what he did. according to this film right after he got down and freed from prison he left with an 'admirer' to endulge 'in the flesh' lying to his friends and girlfriend saying he had many more interviews. well even if you had alot more interviews to do than why are you not bringing your friends with you? you could tell that he was a bit conceided but cmon all the glory for yourself? i dont speak french but i got the impression that they werent friends anymore shortly after.
very animated narration by pearce and his crew about the accounts that led them to a once in a lifetime accomplishment. 8/10
When he is on Notre Dame, where did he get the skittles from? One minute he is holding the balancing stick, and the next he is juggling - so confusing!
I really loved the way it was all edited together, the way the random clips were added reminded me of the way Amelie was made.
