Little Lord FauntleroyAlthough he hardly measures up to Harry Potter, his contemporary equivalent in terms of children's literature, Fauntleroy still had plenty going for him in the charm stakes. In this, one of many adaptations of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic tale, Cromwell and producer Selznick pull out all the stops. Bartholomew is the young American who inherits an English dukedom, while Smith is his grumpy old granddad, who the curly-headed imp gradually melts with his winning ways. Not overly sentimental, the film is surprisingly undated. Bartholomew also did sterling work as the young David Copperfield in Cukor's 1935 film.
