Two determined students as a West Coast University, Arian (Derek Luke) and Ernest (Michael Pena), follow the inspiration of their idealistic professor, Dr. Malley (Robert Redford), and attempt to do something important with their lives. But when the two make the bold decision to join the battle in Afghanistan, Malley is both moved and distraught. Now, as Arian and Ernest fight for survival in the field, they become the string that binds together two disparate stories on opposite sides of America. In California, an anguished Dr. Malley attempts to reach a privileged but disaffected student who ... is the very opposite of Arian and Ernest. Meanwhile, in Washington D.C. the charismatic Presidential hopeful, Senator Jasper Irving (Tom Cruise), is about to give a bombshell story to a probing TV journalist (Meryl Streep) that may affect Arian and Ernest's fates.

Lions for Lambs Robert Redford directs himself and two other Hollywood heavyweights - Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise - in a triptych on activism, politics, and modern American warfare
Hollywood generally goes to war about five to 10 years after the world's nations start attacking each other, so it's inevitable that 2007 has seen a flurry of movies striving to address a conflict that's itself a sequel, Iraq.
Lions For Lambs fits this weighty bill: not so much in deed, as the battleground here is confined to Afghanistan, but in spirit; fermented in the 9/11-Gulf War melting pot, it might just be the timeliest movie of the year. The year being 2002.
So far behind the cur...
Lions for Lambs has some interesting points it wants to make about the collective complicity of everyone -- cynical politicians, lazy reporters, apathetic students, self-satisfied baby boomer intellectuals -- in the failure of the Iraq war, so it pairs a cynical politician with a lazy reporter, an apathetic student with Robert Redford (he makes a very unconvincing professor), and has them make them. Meanwhile, a pair of underprivileged but uncommonly gifted soldiers prepare to die heroically in an Afghan ice field as the white characters discuss the pros and cons of various philosophical positions.

Oh dear, what went wrong?
A well intended film, looking at important issues of the day: The war in Afghanistan (and Iraq), news reporting, personal commitment to ideals, ... But despite the top stars, the acting is very, very wooden, the scenes in Afghanistan were obviously shot in a studio, and the script is too polished to be convincing. The film feels like a low budget stage play production ... shame!

this movie showed to me more about America's real state of mind than any other source of information. Powerful movie which correctly presents politicians ( and their agendas ) and liberal journalists who are ready to spit on whatever is in America's favor. They are both responsible for this state of mind in USA and it is equal responsibility. Both sides have their own hidden agendas and both sides are using the public - the Amrican people while playing their own agendas. The American's are becoming more and more as the old Roman's - give to the people bread and games ( keep them with full stomacs and take their focus from real life problems by letting them watching more than 100 TV channels .. ).. 4/5
your right baby_jacob27 thats what makes this country what it is ignorance this is the most powerful country in the world yet the most ignorant one of all i love this movie cause is mainly is all truth
It's sad to know that the truth is hidden from the world. The government only want us to see what they want us to see. It's just a mere indulgence of ignorance.
