clints best
superior to flags in many ways, the slow burn being at the start this time, instead of lots of slow sections dropped in here & there in flags.the action also feels more brutal here & for once the enemy is not portrayed as the usual banzai head band etc wearing badguy.personally i rate this a five star movie as i cannot find a single fault in this story which is a marvelous tribute to all who fought there, on what must have been hell on earth

Letters from Iwo Jima
Not a bad film. There are loads of films which give an Allied view of the events and battles of WW2, this film gives an insight to the Battle of Iwo Jima from a Japanese Soldier's view.

Unfortunately it is in Japanese, with subtitles in English, which is why it only gets 2 stars.

Great movie!! Told from the Japanese side about the battle for Iwo Jima - as opposed to it's sister movie 'Flags of our Fathers' - which is nowhere near as good as this one.

Japanese language - English subtitles.

Well acted - directed and produced. Must see. 4.5/5

much better than "flags of our fathers". this time around you see what the japanese went through. far better acting and far better movie, superiority in every way, i recommend. 3 1/2 of 4 stars excellent.

Excellent film from an excellent director. Grimmer than the average war film. Impressive cast. Nice and very interesting to see the war from a different perspective. What's even nicer is seeing an American director make a foreign language film. Clint Eastwood does whatever he wants to do. Bravo. 4.5/5 rating.

This movie, is surreal that it contents comes from letters written from love ones -- an account of their experience and correspondances of their time at war on Iwo Jima island. I found myself embarrassed from them, do to the lack of morale and discouraging demeanor. I did'n't finish the film for I aways thought of them as strong warriors -- I would like to keep that thought of them -- in that respect.
