With a film like this, it is harshly judged on two fronts. Firstly, it is compared with the original book and secondly it is being judged as a film itself.
Unfortunately this fails on both counts. The story differs significantly from the book, presumably to make it more accessible to the screen, but all it leads to is 2 dimensional characters and a lot of disappointment. As a stand-alone film, it isn't really much cop either and I certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone who hadn't read the book. |
