JacknifeHardly surprisingly, this adaptation of a three-hander play (directed for the cinema by the British Jones) made no impact in the cinema, where the additional flashbacks to the Vietnam War were hardly an inducement to a paying audience. De Niro plays the title role (he crashed vehicles in 'Nam). He visits his former pal, Dave (Harris), a veteran even more traumatized by his experiences. In the house is a schoolteacher sister (Baker), and the sexual relationship between her and the visitor rouses the disapproving Dave from his malaise. If it's acting rather than action you want, then here the cup runneth over. |
