In 1791, plantation owner Louis outside New Orleans has lost his courage to live. He gets bitten by the vampire Lestat and is himself turned into one. He hates being a vampire and refuses to kill humans. Louis and Lestat turn a little girl, Claudia, into a vampire, and together they live on through the centuries.

Although this film doesn't stay completely true to the book, it adapts the book perfectly for the silver screen. The story is changed, the characters are slightly different, but the feeling of the book is absolutely spot on, unlike the film 'Queen of the Damned', which singularly massacred the book.
Aside from that, it's a wonderful epic film with amazing depth and vibrancy, and a thoroughly engaging plot, well developed characters and an amazing feeling of living history.
A true classic

this dvd is superb. The story opens in present day San Francisco. Louis (played by Brad Pitt), a 200 year-old vampire, is telling his life story to an interviewer (played by Christian Slater), who is shocked by his supernatural revelation. 'I am flesh and blood,' Louis tells him, 'but not human.'
His story takes us back to late 18th century New Orleans where Louis first encountered the Vampire Lestat (played by Tom Cruise). Desiring a companion, and in love with his beautiful looks, Lestat gives Louis the 'Dark Gift'-that is, he makes him into a vampire. They live together for many years, roaming the streets at night, united by their common quest for blood. ...

This was a great film. I loved it just as much this time as I did the first time I saw it. The acting was great, the writing and plot were awesome! A must see!
i can't believe i waited this long in viewing this little gem. I agree with everyone's comments. this movie is an instant classic. Tom, Brad and Kristin did remarkable in their roles in this film. Even Christian Slater was great haha
I absoloutly loved this! Classic Vampires, not of this sparkle in the sun stuff. I can't beilive i haven't watched this sooner. The cast was totally amazing, and it was all so real!
I didn't like the ending, i was hoping he'd get changed into a Vamp, but no.
I hoped there would be a sequel, but cannot find one.

interview with the vampire was boring and slow. the acting stunk. the storyline was alright. i couldn't stay interested so i ended up shutting it off after like 15 minutes into the movie. 0/10
i love this great film, kinda gay though but either way it's still awesome. one of my favorite vampire movies of all-time. having cruise and pitt in the same film is like having pacino and de niro, you cant miss. i definitely recommend, you cant miss. 3 1/2 of 4 stars excellent.
