InnerspaceAfter the success of critters-pic Gremlins, director Dante and producer Spielberg reunited for this big-budget comedy rehash of Fantastic Voyage with decidedly mixed results. Dante certainly has his work cut out trying to juxtapose the high adventure of Quaid as a micronaut travelling through Short's bloodstream in a tiny submersible, with the slapstick goings-on of Short himself as a nerdy supermarket manager being pursued by enemy agents. He also overplays his hand in other ways, adding some surprisingly inappropriate touches - one-handed assassin Picardo installing a dildo attachment with which to pleasure Lewis - in what is ostensibly a family entertainment. |
