Uwe Boll's HOUSE OF THE DEAD, based on a video game, manages to capture the goofy, giddy flavour of the drive-in features and Saturday morning cartoons of the 1970s. The story involves a sextet of attractive, romantically entangled Seattle hipsters who hire a boat manned by a salty sea captain (Jurgen Prochnow) to take them to an island rave. Unfortunately, there is a legend surrounding the island which they do not heed: an evil, immortal Spaniard has been conducting experiments with the undead there for centuries. Countless numbers of shambling zombies are in fact already poised to being a ma... ssive attack on the invading ravers. By the time the gang lands, most everyone at the party has already been killed and joined the ranks of the living dead. Fortunately, the captain is also an arms smuggler and soon the dwindling survivors are geared up with heavy artillery, blasting their way through the hordes in high video-game style. Pumping hard core techno rap fusion, swooping MATRX-style camera moves, manic editing, ample gore effects, clips from the actual video game, and a dash of nudity all coalesce to keep things lively. Those who like their horror a little on the cheesy side may just find themselves in zombie-movie nirvana.

Great game . Bad movie
Based on the SEGA game (I think they just used the game name, SEGA logo and bits of the graphics) Stereotype American kids go to an island for a party/rave and end up in a fight with zombies. Jurgen Prochnow plays an over the top boat skipper called Capt KIRK (yep its that bad).
Poor acting, poor story, unintentionally funny. Action/fights are spoilt by having flashes from the game inserted. This is one of the worst zombie movies I have ever seen, even some of the 70s and 80s Italian ones are better than this!
One of the most pathetically bad films ever commited to film!
Saw this two years back at Leeds Film festival horror night, and boy did it suck. This film is utterly, utterly dire.. it doesn't even have the humourous appeal of Ed Wood Jr (The so called worst director of all time) movies for sheer 'bad' value. This movie is an embarassment to horror movie fans, b-movie fans and is probably one of the worst game to film adaptations imagineable. The director's incompetance knows no bounds... well you would have thought he'd take a hint but he made a film equally as bad with Alone in the Dark. For some hilarity, after finding out how dire this movie is for yourself, search for some quotes from Uwe Boll (the director). They are utter...

This movie is just TERRIBLE!! I am a huge zombie fan, but this movie is one big joke! Not a funny joke either! This is one of those jokes that somebody tells and everyone grows silent and embarrassed. Hell I was embarrassed when I watched it, cuz I had a girlfriend with me at the time. Do not watch this dreadful god awful movie. Don't even look at the cover art. If someone asks you to watch it with them, just shoot them. It's not worth it! negative infinity out of 5.
