Hotel Rwanda

The evil that men do not only lives after them, it often dwarfs our puny attempts to do good in the world, mocking the very notion of a shared humanity. Who has not felt as Kurtz did in Heart of Darkness, whispering "The horror, the horror" when confronted with yet another unimaginable nightmare man has perpetrated on man.

Africa was the setting for Joseph Conrad's novella, and Africa has had more than its share of these horrors inflicted upon it. None was more savage and terrifying than the situation in Rwanda in 1994, when in a mere 100 days more than 800,000 of that country's citizens were slaughtered over ethnic differences by their erstwhile friends and neighbors ...

Heart Wrenching Drama
I found this to be a heart wrenching eye-opening film. I can't pretend to know much of Rwanda's history and therefore cannot comment on the film's bias. What I can comment on is the power with which Don Cheadle plays his role. He brings wonderful humanity and warmth to his character and is the key to the movie's success. Nolte's General seems very misplaced however.

Some of the scenes are disturbing and some viewers may find them hard to stomach. However, these scenes add to the storyline and are a necessary part of the film. Hotel Rwanda

Hotel Rwanda is based on the real-life story of African hotelier Paul Rusesabagina, a Hutu whose compassion, humanity and quick thinking allowed him to save 1,200 Tutsi refugees from being slaughtered during the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

A Schindler's List for the Third World, Terry George's account of that slaughter - in which around one million Tutsis were killed by the Hutu majority over the course of 100 days while the West turned a blind eye - works best as a powerful indictment of our own culpability.

Repeatedly emphasising the failure of the West to send an intervention force into the troubled country, Hotel Rwanda asks probing questions...

a non-sentimental realistic view of what happened in Rwanda while the world tried its best not to 'look on'.

the story is well told with excellent acting throughout.
very much worth a watch, even it is just to say you have watched it - and impress all your really smart friends!

i didn't even know this kind of murdering was happening in africa. very powerful and very very sad film. you'll question "how can this people to this". this kind of atrocity happens everywhere in 3rd world country's. you cannot miss this film. 3 1/2 of 4 stars excellent.
