Rod Kimble, a self-proclaimed stuntman, grew up believing he's the son of Evel Knievel's test-rider, a courageous stuntman who died in his prime. Rod is committed to fulfilling his father's legacy. Only problem is--he sucks! Rod lives at home with his loving mom Marie, jerk of a stepfather Frank and nerdy stepbrother Kevin. He doesn't have a job, and can usually be found doing stunts on his moped, attempting to jump over everything from milk trucks to public swimming pools. Rod remains optimistic in spite of the abuse he suffers from his stepfather. Frank has a penchant for ... beating the tar out of Rod, who just keeps coming back for more in the hopes of earning Frank's respect by besting him in one of their regular knock-down brawls. When Frank gets sick and needs a $50,000 operation, Rod attempts to raise the money by undertaking his biggest stunt ever--jumping 15 buses, one more than Evel Knievel himself ever dared. He'll land the jump, get Frank better, and then fight him hard.

It worked for Will Ferrell in Anchorman and Talladega Nights: Devise a cocktail-napkin sketch of a character and hope the movie falls in place around it. But by the time Hot Rod reached the screen, Ferrell had stepped aside, leaving "Saturday Night Live's" Andy Samberg to play amateur stuntman and accident magnet Rod Kimble. Those hoping for feature-length doses of Samberg's Lazy Sunday wit will have to settle for just plain lazy, as Hot Rod aims low and still manages to miss its target. Even if pic crashes and burns at the box office, it should emerge unscathed on DVD.

Spare yourself the 'Rod'
This is a goofy comedy, and to be totally honest with you, not particularly in the best of ways. Loser Rod has issues with his stepdad and the girl next door, he wants to become something worthwhile so they have to sit up and take notice of him. His plan is a simple one, for him aided by his friends (or erstwhile back-up crew) to leap various objects... Evil Knivel style... on a moped... you get the idea. There are flashes of fun to be had in this, but they bite the dust as quickly as this guys latest stunt. If you just have to go out and watch a funny 'loser' movie there are better out there, example 'Superbad'. Its not a total flop, but I wouldn't jump through a bla...

really good movie, one of my favorites of all time, i guess it's just me, pay attention to the small details! "you look pretty, what? i said you look .." the hwhiskey part is so funny. i been drinking green tea all god damn day, my hat now!
it was OK. funny at some parts, corny at others. But the ending was definitely worth waiting for.. although it might seem boring, when u get to the end u won't regret watching the movie.
