HOLLYWOODLAND explores Reeves's life and tragic end from the perspective of Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), a private investigator hired by Reeves's mother shortly after his death. Cutting back and forth between scenes of Reeves's life and Simo's detective work, the film draws parallels between two men kept from appreciating the present by dreams of future grandeur. Ben Affleck returns to form as Reeves, a man whose hindering celebrity status may have reminded the actor of his own: despite breaking onto the scene with an Academy Award for writing GOOD WILL HUNTING in 1997, Affleck's career was at o... ne point overshadowed by a romance as familiar to the public as Superman's cape. With close attention to detail, first-time director Allen Coulter creates two distinct worlds specific to their time, Simo's noir-ish and seedy L.A. forming a bleak contrast to the glamorous, formal Tinseltown Reeves so longed to be embraced by. An accomplished act for a first time director, HOLLYWOODLAND offers viewers a believable look into Hollywood's most glamorous bygone era. Strong performances and stylish filmmaking help fuel a mystery without a solution.

Hollywoodland The story of the mysterious death of Superman - or, more precisely, George Reeves, the Hollywood hunk who played him on television in the 1950s. Stars Adrien Brody, Ben Affleck and Diane Lane
While contemporary Los Angeles may be a place personified by smog, 16-lane traffic jams and gang violence, in the years after the war the city seemed a glamorous, violent place to be. Women were alluring, men were hunks, cars were shiny but no one - not even Hollywood's elite - was exempt from crime, corruption and intrigue.
Allen Coulter's feature directing debut (he's previously worked on 'The Sopranos', 'Sex And The City' and 'Six Feet Under'), is about a mysterious death amon...
Affleck and Lane, with a tremendous small role for
Bob Hoskins. The film certainly captures the time with its film studios and movie star mansions scenes, but it is flawed effort
and could have been a classic if the screenplay was
a lot sronger.
Frustrated Superman
An excellent, truly evocative film about the darker side of hollywood.Ben Affleck gives his best performance to date in a moving tale about George Reeves , one of the earlier actors to play superman. Diane Lane and Bob Hoskins both provide great supporting roles as does Adrian Brody who is great as the seedy journalist investigating Reeves' death. Highly recommended.

Hollywood has gotten so lame lately. Are you sure this wasn't directed by Oliver Stone?? Too many conspiracy theories to even think about reopening a case like this. In the end, a lot like Spiderman 3, too much clutter.
I thought that this was a great movie. I thought it had great acting, a great story, a great plot, never was preidtable, and it's a very sad movie. The problem with the movie, though, is that it just wasn't as good as i had hoped. it was just a little too slow for my tastes. That's the only problem. Overall, I give Hollywoodland 4 stars/5. Also, i think Ben Affleck finally picked a good movie after his not so great movies like Daredevil, Gigli, Jersy Girl, Paycheck and Surviving Christmas.
This is one of the best movies I have seen in some time, I am just sorry it took me so long to actually have the time to watch it. 4/5 hands down. Excellent job and honestly we may never know what exactly happened here or with a few other great hollywood icons of yester-year. Sad, tragic.
